We LOVE Our iPads!

We are extremely fortunate to have iPads in our classroom this year! The students have really enjoyed learning how to use them. They have been exploring apps and have already started creating digital journals about our Quail Project.  This week we will be using Toontastic to do some digital story telling.

Here are a few photos of students doing some word sorting during Words Their Way using the Whiteboard App.  It is a great way for them to get some practice using a touch screen.

Three of the second graders are making plans for their digital journal about our quail hatching project.    After they planned what they were going to say, they used the iPad video camera to record each other.  We will post the finished projects in a few weeks!

Here are a few more photos of  groups working on their digital journals.  I am so proud of them! They are already iPad pros!

More word sorting!

Our days are packed full of new learning activities this year!  Each morning our Reading Block consists of Words Their Way, Shared Reading, Interactive Read Aloud and Reader's/Writers Workshop by Lucy Calkins. Science and Social Studies are integrated throughout the day.  In the afternoon we use Investigations for our Math Block and we work in our S.T.E.M. time as well.  With all of this, it has been a little difficult to find creative ways to use our iPads during the first few weeks as we practice procedures and routines.  Now that we are getting use to our busy schedule, I am discovering more ways to use the iPads as a great learning tool and I am so excited! The students are working together, sharing ideas and creating projects to show what they have learned.  Along with the iPads we are using  Edmodo and Twitter. (Thank you Mrs. Dye for that awesome idea!) Check us out at
