Global Community Book Project

Ms. Wideen's Second Grade Class from Eastwood Public School in Windsor, Ontario, Canada invited schools around the country to participate in a Community Book Project. Our Technology Facilitator, Mrs. Thomasson told me all about it and I could not pass up the awesome opportunity!  We have completed our part of the book about Bessemer City, and I am sharing the pages below. It was a lot of work, but so much fun! We sent our book to to Ms. Wideen and she will put it in with all of the other community books from around the world! We can't wait to receive the completed project sometime in February! Wow! What a wonderful learning experience it will be!
We used some pretty cool apps with the Book Creator app to complete the project. I couldn't link the actual book, so I just did it page by page! Take a look!

We used the Trading Card app to highlight important information about our town.  This was the first time we have used this app, but not the last!

InstaCollage was a perfect way to showcase photos of our Mayor, the City Seal and the beautiful sign that is in the center of town.  The Popplet app was a great choice to show exactly where Bessemer City is in the World.

Mrs. Wideen's class also wanted to know what the weather is like in our area. Click on the link to the video below. This was our first attempt at using a green screen and I am very happy with how it worked out. My third graders did a terrific job!

The students also asked that we share some of our favorite things to do after school. We decided to use imovie for this! The students put their illustrations into a movie trailer and we added text to go along. It was so simple but very cute! Just click the link!

Each of our third graders also created their own page. They were able to choose which app to use. Most of them decided on Tellagami because it was so easy to use with Book Creator.  Sock Puppets is also a very popular app in our classroom, but we couldn't get it to cooperate!

This post is still under construction!
